Funtakshari: How to Play Antakshari Online with Friends After 50

Antakshari is India’s favourite singing game, played at family get-togethers, picnics and train journeys for generations. At The Smiling Souls we play it live online as Funtakshari, so seniors can sing with friends from home.
How antakshari works
Players sing in turns. Each new song must begin with the last letter (or sound) of the previous song. If a player or team cannot think of a song in time, they lose the turn or a point.
Simple rules
- Split into two or more teams, or play one by one.
- The first team sings any song, usually a few lines.
- The host announces the last letter of that song.
- The next team sings a song starting with that letter.
- Set a short time limit, such as 15 seconds, to think of a song.
- A team that cannot find a song loses the round or a point.
- The team with the most points at the end wins.
Popular variations
- Theme rounds: only songs about rain, friendship, or from one decade.
- Hero or heroine rounds: songs picturised on one actor.
- Dumb charades round: act out a song title for your team to guess.
- Tune round: hum the tune and others guess the song.
Tips for playing online
- Keep yourself on mute until it is your turn, to avoid echo.
- Use headphones if possible, so music does not loop back.
- Have a host who keeps time and the score.
- Sing just a few lines so every team gets more turns.
